Getting stuck in floods
We all know about the the degree of damage caused by floods in North Karnataka two weeks ago. Aravind happened to be on a 7-day tour of western ghats at the same time and had a tough time stranded in the downpour in Karwar. All the roads were flooded and there was no escape. Having gone through the trouble, he feels, “the hardships we encountered are minuscule when compared to the sufferings of stranded devotees of Mantralaya or the hapless people of flood affected areas of North Karnataka.”
At one place, car shakes and partially losses control while navigating on a water body. Our heart beat stops for a while!! Then there is was stream overflowing on a bridge!!!! And it was raining like never before and driving becomes extremely difficult. It was too risky to continue with such conditions and so we decided to return back to Karwar and stay in the Hotel.
A couple of km from Karwar, we could see the devastations caused by rain. There were landslides all along the road. Many boulders had fallen on the road…
…we could see lot of houses completely fallen due to rains and people picking up the belongings. It was a sad scene to watch. On the opposite side, traffic was piled up with trucks and buses as only private vehicles were allowed through the naval base. Policemen were doing the good job of maintaining the traffic.
