Travel & Photography from the web
Here is a list of things that I have been reading in the last one week..
- Only a week ago, I had presented a case for posting hotel review on this blog and had mentioned that you can’t always trust a tripadvisor review. Bloggers at Gadling seem to think the same. Dave Seminara has gone one step ahead to offer tips and exposing fake reviews on the site. What’s worse, he thinks there is something unusual at tripadvisor, and sees one of his negative reviews mysteriously disappear after a few days!
The website of the Aeolis Hotel looked superb, the price was right, and when I read a review of the place on Trip Advisor, which claimed the hotel offered “5 stars rooms,” I was sold… But when I showed up at this hotel with my family a couple weeks ago and saw the pool (see photo above), I immediately knew we were in for some surprises…
Two years ago, I left a negative review for a truly awful Mexican restaurant in Big Fork, Montana. Trip Advisor published the review but days later it, and 3-4 other awful reviews from other diners were mysteriously all gone
- It is tough being an air hostess in USA. No one else but an air hostess would know better. Heather Poole, an air hostess and travel writer tells ten reasons why it can be tough; things that you would never have thought about.
4. WE CAN BE FIRED FOR BIZARRE REASONS.
I know one new hire who lost her job for wearing her uniform sweater tied around her waist. Another newbie got canned for pretending to be a full-fledged attendant so she could fly home for free. (Travel benefits don’t kick in until we’re off probation.) But the most surprising violation is flying while ill: If we call in sick, we aren’t allowed to fly, even as a passenger on another airline. It’s grounds for immediate dismissal.
- The 2012 edition of ‘Where the hell is Matt’ is fun. It seems to be getting better by the year.
- The folks at flickr blog are always busy digging out interesting photographs. This time, they have found some incredible cliff-hanging architecture.
- And some images of red window frames. You would not believe if I just said, window frames can be really interesting to photograph. Check them out yourself – red windows.
