Shillong

A brief update before I leave the internet center – I am at Shillong now and am spending another few days here. I came here for a glimpse and thought of making it a one-day visit, but decided to stay on. Shillong is a nice place, and nearby Cherrapunjee is very very beautiful. Before this, I spent a week in Eaglenest National Park in Arunachal Pradesh and had a very very great time. I then went to Tawang and was impressed by its stunningly beautiful alpine lakes. From there, it was a day at Nameri National Park in Assam and spent some time birding, and boating down the Bharali(Bhorelli) river for 17km(and a good dip in the river). From there, I moved on to the must see of the North East – Kaziranga National Park to see the famed one horn Rhino. After spending 3 days in Kaziranga, I moved on to Shillong where I will stay for 2 to 3 more days. I am just back from Cherrapunjee and am very impressed of the place. It is back home from here after a brief stop at Guwahati on transit. Though I wish I never had to go there – if only I was wise to book my air ticket out of Shillong instead of Guwahati, I could have saved some pain.

Time for another Journey

I am hitting the road again after a short duration of rest. This time, I am heading to the North East, primarily to Arunachal Pradesh. Although I was not all the excited about most of the North East and rather prefer the higher regions in the Himalayas, I had always dreamed of going to Arunachal Pradesh. But the need for permits was discouraging. Now that it has been sorted out, I am thrilled about it.

I am primarily going to be at Eaglenest National Park, working on Eaglenest Biodiversity Project with Kaati Trust, Pune. I will be there for 10 days, and after that might head towards Tawang and higher regions of Arunachal. I also intend to visit Kaziranga, which has been in my list for a long time. Wish me a good trip!

ON THE ROAD…

I have been out for around 10 days now. I have spent a few days in Rishikesh, walking around and spending my time on the banks of Ganga. I then headed to Auli(last year’s report, photos where I spent some time skiing and some time trekking in the snow and wilderness. I don’t need to be explicit in saying that I am having a great time. In a few days, I am heading to the wilderness of Rajaji National Park and then to Corbett National Park, and follow it up with a trip to Varanasi. Of course, detailed reports shall follow once I return from the trip. Keep watching this space!
