Street View – Ha Village, Bhutan
This is a typical street scene in any small town in Bhutan. The main street of the village or town is usually defined by a line of grocery stores – each one looking exactly same and selling exactly same stuff as the next one. A slow pace of life is evident from the empty streets with occasional vehicle passing by, people doing things at their own speed and making candid conversations that are interrupted to chew beetle nut. In a country where people are famously inactive and contented–former more true than later–not many people are likely to spend energy on sprucing up their stores to make them look swanky and sell better stuff than their neighbours. Few people want to postpone a good life in anticipation of material comforts or a glorious future. Life goes on uncomplaining, living with whatever is available.
